Cold Sandwiches on a Hot Day!!!

Today was a long hot day.  My career is that of a museum manager, and one of my duties is to promote our museum to the best of my ability. I accomplish that by participating in a group called Adirondack Coast Cultural Alliance.  This group includes over 12 museums and historical groups from our region.  Our big project that last two weeks was to prepare a booth at our local fair.  Today was alot of fun as we put our final touches on out big booth, adding photos, and historical artifacts.  It was alot of fun, however very hot in the barn where the booth is.

Due to the intense muggyness and heat, we opted for a  sandwich night in our house tonight.  Sometimes it is nice to just put together your favorite sandwhich with your favorite beverage.  My choice for the evening was a smokey salami sandwich with American Cheese, spicy mustard and homemade ranch dip and chips.  The boys made bologna and cheese sandwhiches.

So it is not important to make a huge meal every night, as long as everyone enjoys what they do have.  I will have to make a nice meal tomorrow night!  Stay tuned!

Grilled Pizza Sandwiches

Tonight I tried a new recipe, Grilled Pizza Sandwiches.  These sandwiches are made with Italian bread, butter, sliced mozzarella cheese, sliced pepperoni, and Italian seasoning.  You spread butter on one side of each slice of bread, then place one slice, butter down, on the grill pan, now add one slice of mozzarella cheese, then a nice layer of sliced pepperoni, sprinkle some italian seasoning on top, then place a second slice of mozzarella cheeseon top and add the top slice of bread & butter (butter facing up) and grill till golden brown.  Serve with warm pizza sauce for dipping.

Final Critique: They were very good, however we determined two things.  The first thing, DO NOT substitute sliced mozzarella cheese for shredded mozzarella cheese.  It makes it too hard to flip, and very messy on the grill pan.  Secondly make sure you use good quality pizza sauce.  I had a jar of of store brand pizza sauce that was a bit bitter.  Next time I will make my own or buy a good quality pizza sauce.

Over all these sandwiches were very good and I would serve them again making the corrections above.

Welcome!

Welcome to my blog!  It is July 15, 2012 and this my first post.  I am excited to share my family adventures and most of all my recipes with everyone.  Tonight I am going to be making a recipe I just saw on Pinterest.  It is Pizza Grilled Sandwiches.  Once or twice a month I try to make a new recipe.  This is not hard as I like to search on line for recipes, and I have collected over 200 cookbooks over the last few years.  Where ever I go on vacation I try to pick up a cookbook or two.  I like to bring regional recipes back to the Adirondack Mountains so that I can share them with my family and sometimes reinvent them to be used with wild game from our area.  For instance I found an amazing chili recipe and now use ground Venison in it instead of hamburger.  Cooking the wild game in the tomato base allows the meat to tenderize and the gamey taste is no longer there.  I have had a whole group of woman here for a Mary Kay party and not one of them knew it was Venison till after they ate some.  They were shocked!

So as I stated earlier, I look forward to sharing my family and my recipes with you and hope you return to visit often.
